From the TCM perspective, Epimedium / Epimedii Herba, (淫羊藿,Yín Yáng Huò) is a potent, warming herb that acts as a “fuel” for the body’s vital fire (Yang). It is a key herb for addressing age-related decline, sexual dysfunction, chronic pain from cold, and weakness, always with the core TCM pattern diagnosis of Kidney Yang Deficiency.
· Botanical Source : The dried aerial parts (leaf) of plants from the Epimedium genus, such as Epimedium brevicornum, E. sagittatum, E. pubescens, and others.
Warm in nature. Pungent/Acrid and Sweet in taste. It enters the liver and kidney meridians.
